Ancient Seder Olam is a chronology from the day of the creation of man to 1948. I found the last few chapters the most exciting, but the rest of the book would have been far more interesting, if I had read the context of the scriptures presented by Dr. Ken Johnson. I'm sure because of space, he only quoted the passage necessary to show the chronology. Even so, I couldn't put the book down. Reading the passages in context would definitely fill it out, and give a far greater, and more exciting understanding of the history of man and, particularly Israel and Judah, for almost 2000 years. Dr. Johnson includes charts to help you follow the chronology. I had already read his Ancient Post-Flood History, which was also a definite help.

I'm finding this book most interesting. I'm not a numbers person but the author takes all of the numbers, dates, ages of the characters and events mentioned in the Old Testament to show the flow and accuracy of the creation of the world, man, events, and history of the Hebrews. Worth having in your library.

I bought this version because I especially liked the tables with the dates in both the Jewish calander and our modernized western calander. The book is quite a quick read though. Also, not really part of the ancient seder, but the writer has written an additional chapter which covers major events from the second temple to the reestablishment of the modern nation of Israel. I found that chapter to have quite a few surprises.

This book presents Old Testament events in a timeline-like form ranging from the first day of Creation to the end of the Second Temple. Dates are clustered by topic and there are 31 topics. (Actually chapter 31 is history after the Seder Olam, or dates covering the reign of Cyrus, circa 540 BC, up to the 1967 Six Day War.) Each date is accompanied with commentary explaining the who-what-why-when-where-how. The book is written from a Christian perspective but contains very little, if any, Christian dogma.I'm not sure how I wound up with both Kindle and paperback versions but I'm glad I did. I prefer to use real books when studying but it's also great to be able to carry an impossible number of reference books in ebook form.

Seder Olam, which means "order of eternity", was not quite what I expected. This is basically the Book of Jasher with material added by various Jewish priests. (The added material is generally corrected by Doctor Johnson as incorrect or inaccurate.) Read Ken Johnson's book "Ancient Post-Flood History" first, then read this. The chronological tables in the Appendicies alone would make this book a good purchase. When looking for the history of man immediately following the Flood, there are few books to read. This one is one of only four that I found.

Very Informative, it fills in the background details of several books in the Old Testament. I would recommend this to anyone that wants to truly learn about Biblical times.

If you need to really follow along with the scriptures, this book is an excellent time line to help you do that. It brings things into perspective.

About the Author

Usha Goswami is Professor of Education at the University of Cambridge and a Fellow of St John’s College, Cambridge. She is also Director of the Faculty’s Centre for Neuroscience in Education. Prior to moving back to Cambridge in 2003, she was Professor of Cognitive Developmental Psychology at the Institute of Child Health, University College London 1997 - 2003, and before that, she was University Lecturer in Experimental Psychology at the University of Cambridge, 1990-1997.

About the Author
ALEXANDER WEINSTEIN is the director of the Martha’s Vineyard Institute of Creative Writing. He is the recipient of a Sustainable Arts Foundation Award, and his stories have received the Lamar York, Gail Crump, and New Millennium Prizes, have been nominated for Pushcart Prizes, and appear in the anthology New Stories from the Midwest.
